The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) will hold a press conference, May 20, 2002, at 10:00 A.M. to announce the capture of Margo Freshwater, one of the TBI’s original Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives. Freshwater was arrested yesterday at approximately 4:50 P.M. in Columbus, Ohio, by special agents of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation with assistance from the Columbus Police Department and Special Agent Greg Elliot of TBI’s Criminal Intelligence Unit.
Freshwater was wanted for escape from the Tennessee State Prison for Women on October 4, 1970, where she was serving 99 years for murder. She is currently in the Franklin County, Ohio jail.
Freshwater was one of the original fugitives placed on TBI’s Most Wanted program on May 5, 1993, and becomes the 104th fugitive apprehended since the program’s inception. These 104 fugitives, wanted for the most serious felonies, have been apprehended in 24 states and the Province of Ontario in Canada.
