University of Tennessee Athletics Director Doug Dickey has named Tyler Johnson, as assistant athletic director for operations. Johnson will have responsibilities to include managing the Department’s scholarship program, squad lists, and travel authorizations. He replaces Colonel Gene Moeller, who died April 19.
“Tyler has worked in these specific areas as an athletic department employee and at the Thornton Center,” Dickey said. “He is well versed in University of Tennessee regulations, Athletic Department procedures and NCAA rules.”
Johnson, 33, served most recently as associate director of the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center, in the areas of academic advising and eligibility for football and baseball. He also had responsibility for building management and supervision. He had previously served in the Office of Student Life as administrative assistant and academic advisor for the Vols baseball program.
He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Lacrosse, with a degree in physical education teaching and a minor in coaching competitive athletics. He earned his master’s degree from Tennessee in sport management in 1995.
Johnson’s wife, Catherine, is an assistant athletic trainer with the Lady Vols athletic program.
