The Fan Collector Newsletter reported that a 1880s’ custom Bayley-Lee Fan sold for a record $37,500 on eBay. The fan was custom-built as a gift for inventor Thomas Edison. A brass plaque on the fan reads “Presented to Thomas Alva Edison by the designer Joseph Lee with compliments of the New York Edison Co”. The fan also features an etched portrait of Edison, miniature replicas of light bulbs and sockets, and designs of other Edison inventions. The record should really be for an Edison presentation piece.
