Walters State’s 2003 Winter Horse Series features a new event this year. Two Youth Activities Nights are planned to give the area’s young horse riders a chance to practice their horsemanship skills.
Youth Activities Nights are scheduled for 6PM on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Monday, Feb. 3 at the Walters State Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center in White Pine.
Practice runs are planned for barrel racing, pole bending, calf roping, breakaway roping and goat tying. All events are open to riders up to and including high school seniors and current WSCC Ag Club members. Entries may be limited for roping and goat tying.
Participation requires a one-time area fee of $5 and $2 per run. A current negative Coggins test is required for all horses participating and riders under the age of 18 must have a liability waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
The Winter Horse Series is presented by WSCC Ag Alumni Club with proceeds funding scholarships for agriculture students. The event is sponsored this year by Jefferson Federal Savings and Loan and Masengill-McCrary.
