The Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra’s 3rd Annual Summer String Camp will take place on June 21-25 at Bearden High School. This camp is open to string students, grades 12 and under, of all playing levels. Students will have an opportunity to improve skills through ensemble playing, sectional rehearsals and one-on-one instruction. The camp experience will culminate in a performance on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Bearden High School. There are still a limited number of spaces still available.
Members will meet at varying times depending on ability: junior level meets from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., intermediate level meets from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and the advanced level meets from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Junior level students are introduced to ensemble playing. This is an excellent opportunity for first time orchestra players. The junior level is open to all string students who have a beginning knowledge of note reading.
Intermediate level students are given an opportunity to rehearse and perform with the members of the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra giving younger players a chance to work at a higher playing level. This group is open to all string students who have minimal orchestra experience. Students must be solid in rhythm training and comfortable with shifting.
Advanced ensemble students are introduced to high-quality string playing with challenging repertoire. This is a great opportunity for students who will audition for the most advanced Youth
Orchestra ensemble next fall. Enrollment in this level is limited to string students with a minimum of
four years orchestra experience. Applicants must be accomplished in grade 6 and above for repertoire.
There is a participation fee of $60, which includes a Knoxville Symphony String Camp T-shirt imprinted with all participants’ names. There will be a final concert Friday, June 25, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Bearden High School
