If you believe it is important to pass on family memories, personalities, heritage, then you will want to join local author, Russ Driver, for a Brown Bag Lunch program at 12:00 noon on Monday, August 23, at the Blount County Public Library. Driver will present an hour-long program in the Dorothy Herron Room of the library. Members of the public who attend the program should feel welcome to bring and enjoy lunch along with the presentation.
Russ Driver gives this reason for beginning the effort of researching and writing a family biography: “My grandfather, a prominent banker at the local, state, and regional levels, was a man of rare personality and Christian character whom I had known very well,” he says, “and I wanted to preserve his memory, particularly for my son, Christopher, now a graduate student, who, like other young family members, never had the opportunity to know him personally.”
Driver, author of Leslie Rowles Driver: The Fruitful Prince, will share ideas from his own research experience for beginning and assembling a family history, correct source citation of information as it is collected, and organizational methods for note-taking and writing.
Available for research in the Genealogy Department of the Blount County Library, Driver’s book is an excellent example of accurate citation of sources and references. .
The program is free and open to the public. The Blount County Library is located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.
