The Lady Eagles had already lost once to the Sevier County Bearettes this season and were looking to hopefully split the season Thursday night as the two teams met at Seymour High School. The first period saw Seymour with the lead 9-7 when the first buzzer sounded.
Seymour’s Jennifer Wilson buried a three pointer and Brittany Mikels grabbed a field goal to extend the Lady Eagles lead to 14-8 but Sevier County retaliated with two 3 pointers and a basket from Julie Fox to take the lead.
Seymour managed to comeback and led the game 20-19 going into the half. It was Nicole Franklin and Brittany Mikels respective baskets that gave the Bearettes the lead back when right before the end of the 3rd.
Katie Clark made a pair of free throws and Brittany Mikels made two consecutive baskets to once again give Seymour the lead over Sevier County by the score of 31-28. Those baskets however would be the last time the Lady Eagles would score for the rest of the game.
As the clock winded down it seemed that neither team was able to find much of an offensive game. It was Julie Fox of the Bearettes that found the basket first, followed by Jacquelyn Kremer’s game winning turnaround jumper with 42 seconds left to play that sealed Sevier County’s victory. Seymour eventually drew on Julie Fox and she hit both free throws to pull Sevier County’s lead to 34-31 with 11 seconds left on the clock.
The Lady Eagles next head to Carter High School for compete in the District 3-AA tournament.
