A single donation to Medic Regional Blood Center exempts the donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood processing and collection fees at any U.S. hospital for up to one year. Membership to Medic’s Family Blood Coverage Program is much like an insurance policy that protects the family if a transfusion is ever needed. Current statistics show that one in three will need a blood transfusion in his/her lifetime. Each additional blood donation adds another year of credit toward the membership. “We offer this incentive to donors and their families as a way to say thank you for thinking of others who need life-saving blood,” states Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson. Eligible donors can visit the donor center located at 1601 Ailor Avenue or stop by a community blood drive.

Medic must collect 350 pints of blood every day of the work week in order to adequately supply the area hospitals. Medic is the sole provider for blood and blood products to 21 surrounding counties and 28 area hospitals. The community blood supply depends on the generosity of volunteer blood donors.
All donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh more than 110 pounds and have positive identification. Donors will receive a free t-shirt and free cholesterol evaluation (no fasting required). For more information donors can call 865-524-3074 or visit www.medicblood.com.
