Flu is on the decline in Seymour and South Knoxville.  Recent reports from Sevier county health officials have been showing 2013 with fewer cases when compared to numbers in 2012.

“So far in 2013 we have not treated any influenza cases in the health department,” said Nursing Director Beverly Chandler.  “We have seen and treated flu-like illnesses but the standard influenza test comes back negative for the flu virus.”

The Sevier County Health Department, located at 719 Middle Creek Rd., has flu shots available.  Treatments for communicable diseases, pregnancy testing, immunizations, HIV testing and other routine or preventative medical care services are offered free of charge for those who qualify.

“If you or a family member are experiencing flu like symptoms such as a fever  of 101 degrees or higher, sore throat, cough, body aches and general discomfort you need to seek medical care,” Chandler explained.
