Co-Band Directors Brett and Brittney Butler of the Seymour High School Band Department directed nine performance ensembles during the winter months post marching band season.

“During post marching band season we have Winter Guard, Indoor Drum Line and a full piece Winter Concert Band,” said Co-band Director, Rhett Butler. “The Concert and Symphonic bands performing in March along with the Jazz Ensemble will be competing in the area’s largest Jazz Festival.”

The SHS Marching Band competed and placed in several competitions during marching season which ended Nov. 1.

“We did very well receiving a Superior rating at East Tennessee State Bands of America (ETSBOA) competition and won at Karns Marching Invitational (KMI),” Rhett Butler said. “ The band’s best performance was at Contest of Champions held at MTSU where we placed third overall.”

The Indoor Drum Line will compete in a four state Carolina Indoor Performance Association later this year.

“They will be up against other indoor percussion lines from different portions of East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of Virginia,” he added. .

Brittney Butler, who has been with the band department as Co-director for three years and her husband Rhett Butler has been the Department Director since 2008.

“We are both very proud of the band and color guard,” Rhett Butler said. “Several students did very well during marching season.”

He added that eleven students made All State East band, four students were selected for All State East Jazz band, with two of them being allowed to try out for All State Jazz band.

The Seymour High Winter Concert band is currently searching for venues and special occasions to perform during their Winter and Spring Concert Series.
