Local non-profit (pending 501c4) Get Fit Seymour recently announced plans for a free community weight-loss challenge for Seymour and South Knoxville residents and now two celebrities has joined the line-up.

The April 5 event will include fitness assessments, exercise demonstrations by each of the coaches, and motivational presentations by Biggest Loser Finalist Season 12, Joe Mitchell and fitness expert and Beach Body Master Trainer Meredith Campbell.


Before officially getting started a free Nutrition class will be offered for all participants on March 29 at 9 a.m at Smoky Mountain Cross Fit in Seymour.

Group counseling sessions will be offered to the challengers in addition to being assigned a coach to assist with a personal plan of action to achieve participant weight loss goals.

The 60-day challenge kicks off at 8:30 a.m., April 5, at Seymour Intermediate School, on Boyds Creek Hwy. and to conclude June 7. The event will include fitness assessments, exercise demonstrations by each of the coaches, two of whom will be Mitchell and Campbell.

Get Fit Seymour organizers are encouraging pre-registration for the challenge, as a large turnout is expected. To date, 140 participants have pre-registered. To pre-check your Blood Pressure and Resting Heart Rate for free, challengers are encouraged to go to Seymour Weight and Wellness prior to the event’s kick-off. We are expecting 200 or more challengers for this year’s event.

Challengers will be able to attend free workout classes and sessions for the 60 day event to assist in their weight loss goals.  Challengers and coaches will be able to stay connected during the challenge via social media: Facebook at Get Fit Seymour page, on Twitter, @getfitseymour, with Instagram – GetFitSeymour, and with their registered hashtag of #getfitseymour.

Major sponsors are excited about the event and have become very involved with offering specials and new items for the participants.

Willies Restaurant in Seymour has created a new menu just for challengers so they can stay on track and still enjoy eating out with their family. The Get Fit Seymour menu will be available with the kick off of the event and will include a calorie listed menu to help participants make informed decisions.

Mountain View Chiropractic and Massage is offering a $20 Certificate of Health “Peak Performance” package for all challengers prior to the event. Smoky Mountain Cross Fit will play host to many of the workout scheduled events for Get Fit Seymour. Computer Depot Inc. has donated a laptop as one of our prizes.

Get Fit Seymour committee includes, Gretchen Rivers, Director, and fellow fitness enthusiasts and trainers Dawna Landis, Amanda Harmon, Karen Quilliams, Shawn Stutz, Jason Reagan, Debra Ribblett, Melissa Watson, P.A., and Lisa Beighle, DC.

The goal is to end the trend of obesity in our backyard by educating people in healthy eating, moving, and living. Everyone, regardless of size or fitness level is encouraged to participate in this free event.
