Fresh off winning two games in Murfreesboro, the Seymour Lady Eagles softball team returned to East Tennessee to get a big District 2-AAA shutout over Morristown East 8-0 as Miranda Duncan pitched a perfect game.

Over the weekend the Lady Eagles played in the Riverdale Warrior Classic in Murfreesboro picking up a pair of wins over Blackman 9-1 and 15-0 shutout over McEwen. Sam Trentham pitched a no hitter in the five inning shortened game due to the mercy rule. Trentham struck out seven and was only one walk from a perfect game.

She also helped her own cause at the plate hitting four RBIs on three hits.

Other hitters included Sam Baldwin with three RBIs while Reid Ballard, Bailey Pierce and Kaitlin Atkins drove in two each.

Duncan got the win over Blackman by allowing only three hits in five innings while striking out seven.

At the plate, Ballard and Danielle Mull drove in two runs each while Lauren Irwin, Ballard, Pierce, Emily Palmer, Trentham and Mull each had two hits.

Before Duncan’s perfect game over Morristown East, the ace pitcher had only allowed three hits in the previous two games.

In her shutout, Duncan struck out nine. She didn’t allow a base runner all day.

Lady Eagles head coach Jessica Sterling didn’t realize Duncan had a perfect game going until later in the game. According to Sterling, Duncan did a great job mixing her speed and keeping the Lady Hurricanes off balance.

Irwin and Palmer both had homeruns in the win. Palmer had four RBIs while Irwin had three and scored twice. Pierce was four for four.

The Lady Eagles will now host Cherokee on April 10th.
