A Seymour man was arrested Friday after beating both his girlfriend and a puppy.
On Thursday just a few minutes until midnight, an officer with the Sevierville Police Department was dispatched to a residence in reference to a domestic dispute, reports show. According to reports, Officer Jester discovered a man outside the residence bleeding from his face upon arrival. The man was identified as 27-year-old Matthew Grant.
Reports show that Grant stated that he and his girlfriend, who he has kids with, were having an argument about their seven month old dog using the bathroom on the floor. Grant added that he deserved to have his face bleeding, but did not disclose why it was bleeding, reports show.
Officer Jester then spoke to Grant’s girlfriend who stated that Grant was drunk and had gotten angry over their dog using the bathroom on the floor, so he hit the dog multiple times and slammed it up against the wall, according to reports. Grant’s girlfriend tried to get him to stop attacking the dog, but Grant grabbed her from the back of her head and hit her in the lip, reports show. Grant’s girlfriend, who is currently pregnant, took a coffee mug and struck Grant in the face out of fear and self-defense.
NCIC showed that there was an active order of protection in place on Grant, with the victim being his girlfriend. According to reports, while outside the residence, Grant started to scream loud, spit blood and yell profanity at a time of the night where neighbors close by were sleeping.
Grant was taken to LeConte Medical Center for treatment then transported to the Sevier County Jail. Grant was charged with Violation of An Order of Protection, Aggravated Domestic Assault, Cruelty to Animals, Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct, reports show.
